Sisters Sensing China
During the last days of April the Danish performance group Sisters Hope visited Danish Cultural Center and Beijing. Sisters Hope’s tenure in China is part of a long-term strategic development cooperation with Danish Cultural Institute under the name “Sisters Sensing the World: Beyond Economic Rationality” with the intention to explore a potential Sensuous Society in a variety of contexts. How will the world change if the primary focus of existence is purely sensing?
The method that the Sisters Hope project both practice and preach is active embodiment. This means opening up the sensuous mode of being in the world and belonging in society. The Sisters ask you to consider what a society determined by sensuousness would look like. Their new project Sisters Sensing in particular seeks to explore sensuousness across borders and cultures through a 12 hour performative walk. In China the walk was carried out on april 27th in Aranya with a final performance inside Aranya Art Center.
The walk is the first phase of a series of walks that will also take place in countries across Asia, Europe, and South America later this year. While in China, Sisters Hope was in contact with local curators and producers in the hope of organising future projects.
