DCC to host debates on cultural heritage protection and renewal
In connection with the exhibition A Modern Royal Household, the Danish Cultural Center in Beijing will host five debates on the protection and renewal of cultural heritage.
The Danish Cultural Center in Beijing recently opened the exhibition A Modern Royal Household, which shows the transformation of Frederik VIII’s Palace at Amalienborg, the home of the Danish royal family. The restoration took place from 2004 to 2010. During that period, ten famous contemporary artists brought the interior of Frederik VIII’s Palace into the 21st century. The bold renegotiation of the inner space of the palace invites to discussions of the relationship between the old and the new, both in architecture and in fields such as art and culture.
In addition to the exhibition, Danish Cultural Center will host five debates on the interplay between protecting of the old and introducing new forms of expression, design and architecture. The debates are divided into four sub-themes, each presented by expert guests in the field.
The goal is to inspire both academics, practicians, and people who are foreign to the field to consider questions of protection, restoration, and renewal of cultural heritage and public spaces, and to consider urban planning in general.

28 October 2017, Protection of Historic Areas in Urban Development
25 November 2017, Preservation and Transmission of Cultural Heritage in Rural Areas
All debates will take place at the Danish Cultural Center in Beijing.
